Bump Style (Part I)

October 2, 2014

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about dressing a baby bump it’s this… just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean your style has to be sacrificed. True there are good days and bad days, especially at times when you feel as though your body is changing by the day, but I’ve found with a few key pieces you can still feel (and dress) like yourself at the end of the day. The hardest phase for me was when things stopped fitting and I had no baby bump to show for it (2-4 months). That was the most wardrobe limiting time in my opinion and I relied heavily on loose dresses, oversized button down shirts and elastic hair ties—I’d use them to give a little more room on the waist of my jeans.

Since getting so many inquiries and encouraging comments on my bump style I wanted to share the key pieces that I’ve depended on and some outfits that have made me feel stylish during the process. Here is the first of three videos sharing those three essentials.

Essential #1: The Leather Jacket. When I was just two months pregnant and hardly spilling the news I stopped by Anine Bing’s showroom. Knowing that skinny jeans were off the market for me I raced towards one of her leather jackets that I’ve had my eye on. It ended up being the best pregnancy investment since a.) it added the perfect dose of toughness to flowy dresses I was having to rely on and b.) I’ll no doubt still be wearing it after baby.

Outfit credits in order of appearance: Anine Bing leather jacket, Pam & Gela jersey dress (also in black here), Tibi boots // Hatch plaid dress, Stuart Weitzman boots, Gladys Tamez Bianca hat (similar) // Parker New York dress (other finds here and here), Tibi boots // Jewelry: Alexis Russell hammered bangles, Zoe Chicco ring, Jennifer Fisher bone cuff, Carrie Hoffman knuckle ring and stacked rings.
