White On White Style Notes

April 20, 2023

I love a white on white look, especially around this time of year on a sunny spring day. I wore this outfit the other day after digging around my closet to put together what I was envisioning in my head… so funny how after only a short period of time you completely forget what works and what doesn’t. I was reminded how finicky a simple outfit like this can be and how not all white pieces actually go together. I think I tried a handful of my white and ecru jeans on before I landed on this pair that I’ve owned for 4+ years and keep revisiting time and again. The shape, subtle antique white and fit make them some of the best in my arsenal. Also the most versatile white as they’re not too off-white and not too white making them a happy medium for most cream sweaters and tops. This pair is equally special and more of a straight leg shape I’d wear daily. I am currently hunting down my size.

The trick seems to be finding that perfect match, two different shades that work—I prefer a slightly lighter tee or knit on top, same rule of thumb (in my opinion) when it comes to denim on denim—or two pieces that are same same shades and breaking up the two with a belt (this Khaite belt is on my wishlist). Also a fun opportunity for a statement belt… but overall I try to stay away from bright whites and creams that have more of a yellow in them. That in between soft white is the place to live.

I love a white on white look with a great knit (wearing a fuzzy sweater here as a transitional piece on a cooler Spring day) like a classic fisherman knit or classic cableknit… but also nothing beats that perfect white tee for Spring. I mentioned these $8 dollar Target tees to you guys before and they really are the best. I just ordered more because two wasn’t enough for me! I love the high neck and fitted shape to tuck in or wear under knitwear. I also really love the soft white and shape of this tee on it’s own…  and this one which seems to be a perfect antique white.

My other tip is keeping it simple and adding a black sandal and bag or (in this case) a classic print like a striped tote. Also could see a great straw tote with an all white look as well.
