It’s all us Californians seem to be talking about lately, this gray hideous gloom that has been taking over our coasts making us seasonally confused. Especially when it comes to getting dressed. I was chatting with friend about how un-exited we are about getting dressed these days because all we really want to wear are the fun summer pieces hanging in our closets. Oh the conundrum… grade A problems over here. But I have some ways for you to come out on top of this gray month in the wardrobe department that might just spark a little excitement. Also great tips for any cold summer day that might pop up.
The first inspiration I leaned into on a dreary drippy foggy June day was a nautical vibe. An easy one to run with if you have a basic striped sweater or tee, layered with a knit of some kind and denim (white or khaki works too!). Also those oversized chunky cableknit sweaters with a striped tee poking out the top feels oh so summery but warm too. I’ve never found a navy cashmere knit more essential than this month and something you’ll wear year-round. Jenni Kayne has some of my favorites at the moment (and you can use my code Samantha15), rounded up some favorites below but currently living in this half-zip one.
There’s also something to say about incorporating a shockingly bright color that can put a pep in your step. I got this Khaite PVC bag and it’s been one of my favorites lately. Loving it mixed with neutrals and hopefully willing hot summer days to come. Rounded up some other pops of color below.
Lastly, never has there been a better time for some good jewelry. That effortless cool when someone pushes up their sweater to reveal a wrist of great jewelry either stacked pieces or one chunky statement chain… so many ways to go there and I love the idea of mixing raw pearls or beaded pieces for a summery vibe. I’ve personally been into wearing more silver lately (loving it with denim), just got these earrings from Lie Studio and they’ve been brightening my days. Also getting bold with your sunglasses is a fun approach too. I love this pair of cream Celine sunglasses or this classic black cat eye.
