September Wardrobe Edit

September 5, 2023

Trying my hardest to switch gears into Fall and moving at a snails pace. Today’s gloomy gray weather helped a bit as well as some light internet browsing, a dirty chai latte and some solid purging of my closet. That last part is really the thing that re-ignites my passion for getting dressed. Sometimes you really need to just edit what you already have, put things away that you’re tired of looking at and get excited about dressing for a new season. Here’s what I’m excited about wearing this month…

1. Mary Jane flats—I have a few pairs already but I love this style so much in a velvet for Fall. I love how these can be styled in so many ways too. There are loads of them out there right now so I rounded up some of my favorites for you. Lately I’ve been wearing this jewel tone red pair with a favorite pair of vintage Levi’s and I just love the combo.

2. Classic Knitwear—While I am loving a red knit sweater I got on sale back in June (and allll the amazing red knits that are out there right now, more on that later) there is something to say about a classic gray crewneck or a black v-neck that just hits the spot while switching gears to a fresh page/season. The older I get the more I find investing in good quality knitwear is worth every penny. I have a Nili Lotan sweater that is almost 10 years old and still one of my absolute favorites.

3. Investment handbag—if there were ever a time to spoil yourself with a bag you’ve been coveting, Fall is the season to do it. Over the summer it felt like a tornado of “things” being tossed in canvas tote bags, straw bags (always filled to the brim with things for the kids) and I can’t wait to return to a luxurious leather handbag, that screams “my children are in school.” My favorite styles have been from The Row, Khaite and Loewe so I rounded up a few below for anyone looking to add one to their wardrobe.

4. Cool Coats—I went a little crazy last year in the coat department and can’t wait to pull some of them out again this Fall. Among my buys last year that I can’t recommend enough is this Toteme quilted coat that is so easily dressed up or down. I really relied on it for school drop offs, over work out wear and dressed up with jeans and boots. One of the most versatile pieces for the cooler months. Another favorite was this Acne leather and shearling jacket that just feels too cool for works when on.

5. Boots—Moto boots are having a moment this Fall and I’m kind of into it! I just got a really great pair from Freda Salvador that I’m loving with some of my white summer dresses, such an easy way to transition Summer pieces to Fall. I also got these last Fall that I can’t wait to wear again, the *perfect* knee-high boot that gives that luxury look. One of my favorite buys last year. I’m also SO excited to share that Freda Salvador x Sam boot is coming BACK on 9/9! Set your alarms because these went so fast last year.
