New Zealand Part 2: Cape Kidnappers

January 17, 2017

the farm at cape kidnappersOur second stop in New Zealand was a little place called The Farm at Cape Kidnappers in Hawkes Bay. Just about every element of this gem was perfection, down to the vintage Ralph Lauren chairs I wanted to smuggle home with me. The expansive grounds, which were full of hiking trails, wild flowers, the most prestigious golf course in New Zealand, endangered Kiwi birds, a working sheep farm and the lodge’s very own organic garden, were breathtaking to say the least. The entire time I felt like I was staying in someone’s private home and getting an authentic feel for New Zealand at the same time. Our cottage was nestled into the hillside, which provided an epic view for a rainstorm we got to watch from our porch. cape-kidnappers-could-i-have-that_6Everyday during our stay I discovered a new design element that I was obsessed with. This round cellar room was too cool for words. It was cozy with a warm fire, fur throws and that amazing smell that immediately lets you know you’re at a ranch—a combination of a wood burning fire and leather, give me more. Every evening before dinner we’d meet here and have a drink. the farm at cape kidnappersCIHT_CAPE_KID_031-2The Doên dress I lived in. It was warm enough for the cool days we experienced yet comfortable and sophisticated for dinner. Also an easy piece to layer with jackets and sweaters.

Elin couldn’t get enough, especially when they brought over the only black sheep for her to pet—her favorite song is bah bah black sheep! Overall the resort was incredibly accommodating with Elin, they even brought her toys to play with at dinner. All in all, an amazing spot for families.

We got to see it during a pretty intense rainstorm and it was so fun to see the ocean look so mysterious while turning every shade of blue.
CIHT_CAPE_KID_006So what’s up with the name—Cape Kidnappers? Back in the late 1700’s there was a little miscommunication between a Maori tribe and a British captain and his crew which resulted in an attempted kidnapping, hence the name. It was one of the first questions I asked. Also happened right here at this point.  CIHT_CAPE_KID_003 CIHT_CAPE_KID_028
