There’s an undeniable magic to La Quinta Resort & Club that hits you the moment you check in. We arrived late in the afternoon for the second part of our babymoon (see part I here) and were greeted with orange grapefruit juice in the 1920s lobby. The smell reminded me of an old ranch house, except in the middle of the desert, and I immediately sunk into deep leather chairs. I always say there’s a moment at the beginning of a vacation that I stop and think to myself… soak it in, this is going to fly by. Black and white photographs lined the walls with star filled guests who frequented the resort in the 20s and 30s (Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Katherine Hepburn and more) and I was transported for a moment to the old school vibe of the desert.
Once checking into our room, which was perched on the second story with a private deck, we decided a cool off in the water was in order. As the sun set behind the mountains we lounged on our deck until it was time for dinner. This is my favorite time of day in the desert, just after the sun goes down and there’s a lingering heat. It’s the best feeling. Our amazing balcony where we spent most of our time reading, having morning coffee and late night star gazing. These couches were crazy comfortable and I found myself beyond content sprawled out on them. When it comes to a babymoon, spots and moments like this are what its all about. Blue shutters, a signature look to the resort that I became obsessed with.
One of the highlights each day was crawling into this bed at night. Quite possibly the best zzz’s I’ve gotten in a while. I’m still thinking about those pillows.
Dessert at the Adobe Grill: fried ice cream (crazy delicious I highly suggest trying!), chocolate soufflé cake, churros and chocolate and caramel flan. My uniform oddly resembled the shades of blue at the resort, I started to blend in. Sundry dress, Old Navy chambray shirt, Chanel slides (similar), Gladys Tamez hat, Celine sunglasses (similar). Poolside reading material. The view of the pool from our balcony—there’s about 41 throughout the resort! Tasty lattes at Twenty6 to start out our mornings. Afternoon light and our favorite time of the day. The mountains looked like a painting in the background. Our last night we had dinner at Morgan’s in the Desert, which I absolutely loved. The vibe, style and food was perfection. It was the ultimate ending to our babymoon.
